HEARTFELT THANKS
Thank you to the volunteers who contributed their time and talents to the success of Cake Walk 2008. All our volunteers are appreciated but special recognition is owed to the Rotary Club of Calgary South, Best Buddies University of Calgary, the Kinsmen Club of Calgary, and the staff of Cakeworks Bakery for their part in helping L’Arche achieve outstanding results!

We are also indebted to all the talented pastry makers who participated in the Second Annual L’Arche Calgary Cake Walk. The event would not have been possible without their amazing artistry.

And finally L’Arche Calgary thanks all the donors and sponsors who contributed to the Cake Walk. Funds raised through the event ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our community through our homes, programs, and services. This support also helps further our mission to promote belonging for people with developmental disabilities.

2008 marks L’Arche Calgary’s thirty-fifth year of operation. Fekete Associates Inc., the Cake Walk’s title sponsor, also celebrates 35 years. We are honoured that Fekete chose to mark this shared milestone by supporting the 2008 L’Arche Calgary Cake Walk!s

NOT JUST A FEAST FOR THE EYES
Second Annual L’Arche Calgary Cake Walk a Sweet Success

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s Cake Walk. The recipe wouldn’t have been complete without all our valued chefs, sponsors and volunteers.

The event attracted approximately 1300 people and raised $130,000 for L’Arche Calgary’s homes and programs. Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment, cupcake decorating and a piece of cake. [read more]

The Cake Gallery showcased spectacular works of art prepared by top local pastry chefs. The cakes depicted the theme ‘Love is for Everyone,’ which reflects L’Arche Calgary’s mission to create places of belonging for people with developmental disabilities.

Natalie’s Cake Cup
Guest Judges dee Hobsbawn-Smith, Kathy Richardier, and Karine Moulin evaluated each cake’s flavour, flair, and love quotient to award Natalie’s Cake Cup. [read more]

The award is named in honour of Natalie MacLean, who developed the Cake Walk recipe from scratch in order to introduce L’Arche Calgary to the local community and raise funds for its members with developmental disabilities.

Natalie passed away in September 2007 but remains in our hearts and memories. The Cake Walk is a legacy that will continue for years to come.

Congratulations to Otto de Nooij of the Calgary Petroleum Club who won Natalie’s Cake Cup for his ‘Frogs in Love’ masterpiece.

People’s Cake Award
The public also acted as guest judges choosing the most visually dazzling cake via computer voting stations for the People’s Cake Award. [read more]
