Become an Assistant

Are you someone who wants to...

  • Build friendships with people who have intellectual disabilities?

  • Gain a new perspective on what you value and how you see the world?

  • Find joy even in everyday things?

  • Grow in confidence and competence as you learn new skills?

  • Experience living and working with people who are different from you?

  • Have an adventure that just might change your life?

If so, you should apply

to be a Live-In Assistant!

Life in L'Arche is all about building meaningful relationships. Assistants and Core Members (people with intellectual disabilities) create homes and share lives together in households of approximately six to eight people.

Days are filled with the ordinary tasks of daily living: cooking, bathing, cleaning, doing laundry, grocery shopping, and accompanying people to medical appointments. There are also regular community gatherings and celebrations.

Home life is the cornerstone of L'Arche. The evening meal, birthday celebrations, and times of prayer are cherished celebrations that strengthen the bonds between people who live and work together. In teams of three to four people, Live-in Assistants organize, coordinate and participate in caring for Core Members.
