Jean Vanier in Calgary - June 19th
2008
On
Thursday, June 19, Jean Vanier will meet with young adults at St. Mary's
University College. The event entitled "Choosing Our Future: Peace,
one heart at time," will be geared to young adults who work with
youth in a leadership capacity, but a portion of the day will be open
to anyone between the ages of 18 and 35. The cost for youth leaders is
$35, while the public portion is $25. Those who qualify can attend the
whole event for a special price of $50. The number of registrants is limited
to approximately 300. Please download the registration

L'Arche Background:
L'Arche Calgary is part of the
International Federation of L'Arche, founded in 1964 by Jean Vanier in
response to the need of people with developmental disabilities to find
a valid place in society. We endeavour to create homes that are places
of growth and acceptance where healthy relationships with others are fundamental.
We believe that every person is unique and has a right to become the best
they can be mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Celebrating Life:
Preparing for our Final Journey
We
at L’Arche believe that preparing well for your death is an act of love.
With that outlook, the booklet Celebrating Life was developed by L’Arche
Ottawa last year. This year L’Arche Calgary, with the support
of The Calgary Foundation, revised the booklet for Albertans.

Baking up a New Calgary Tradition
A
few weeks ago, L’Arche Calgary held the second
annual Cake Walk. The most novel and exciting family event to hit Calgary
in years! An elite group of Calgary’s most esteemed pastry chefs
baked out-of-this-world cakes and competed for two major awards. The Cake
Walk attracted over 1300 visitors and raised $130,000 for L’Arche Calgary’s
community members, facilities, and programs.
The Second Annual L'Arche
Calgary Cake Walk wouldn't have been possible without the support
of Fekete Associates Inc. many other businesses, and the scores
of volunteers who helped make the day a success. We are hosting the Third
Annual L’Arche Calgary Cake Walk on
Sunday February 8, 2009 at the Carriage House Inn
